Annual Enrollment is your time to select benefits for the upcoming year. It’s also your time to select a primary care physician (PCP) if you don’t already have one. With the TRS-ActiveCare 1-HD plan, you have the freedom to use any in-network provider without a referral when you need care.
Your PCP manages your health care needs, providing routine, basic and preventive care and specialist recommendations, if needed. Over time, your PCP gets to know you, your health history and your needs – and becomes your partner in better health.
A PCP can be an individual physician (such as an internist or pediatrician). You can choose a PCP for yourself and each member of your family enrolled in the plan. By choosing a PCP, you will be able to take advantage of the service and support you’ll gain from this important relationship. Follow your school district’s enrollment process to select your PCP.
Although you will have a PCP, you can still see other primary care physicians. And, with the TRS-ActiveCare 1-HD plan, you do NOT need referrals for specialty care. We are simply encouraging you to choose a PCP during Annual Enrollment to take advantage of the service and support you’ll gain from this important partnership.
While we strongly encourage you to choose your PCP during Annual Enrollment, if you don’t, one will be selected for you based on providers you’ve seen in the past. If you have not seen a provider who is considered a PCP (such as an internist or pediatrician for a child) in the last 18 months, one will be selected based on a PCP recommended by Aetna.
If you don’t want to stay with the PCP that was chosen for you, you can change your PCP at any time. Just go to Navigator, your secure member website and log in or register. Or call TRS-ActiveCare Customer Service at 1-800-222-9205 and a TRS-ActiveCare customer service representative can help you make the change.
You will receive a new medical ID card with your PCP's name on it. If you finalize enrollment for you and your family members by Aug. 8, you will receive an ID card by Sept. 1. If you cannot enroll by Aug. 8, you can log in to your secure member website after Sept. 1 and print a temporary card, or download the TRS Health app to have access anytime on your smart phone.
